Readings are the oldest form of entertainment. The roots of this art lie deep in the history of civilization, dating back to an era when reading aloud great stories, poems, and plays were man's only form of entertainment. Over the past few years research on the effects of reading aloud not only to children but also to adults has shown the importance of this vital art form..... Literacy. The mission of the AMERICAN READERS THEATREis to promote literacy through music, dance, drama and the entire spectrum of the performing arts.....

Reggie Richter:
I have been a member of ART for the past two years. I am also dyslectic and have had a hard time reading my whole life. Getting the chance to practice my reading skills and learning to do it properly has helped me when reading to my grandchildren. I, not only, can get dramatic and bring stories to life....I'm helped by taking the time to study the words and get their true meaning. However, I still get some words twisted and it has always turned out to be a humorous alternative. I'm also learning to read fast....something I have never been able to do. Practice makes perfect and I'm having fun doing it.
